Dear Representative (Senator) last name:
Can you imagine what it would be like if the government told you whether or not you could work and what job you could have? Where you can live? How you spend your leisure time? That what you think and feel and want don't matter?
I am a resident of city in county name County, and I am a person with a developmental disability or I have a family member with a developmental disability. I am writing to ask for your support for First In Families of North Carolina. First In Families is an organization that helps make it possible for people like me to get the services and supports I really need to live the life I want.
First In Families provides flexible, efficient, family supports that build community capacity and self-sufficiency. First In Families also successfully stretches public dollars, on average of 2:1, to achieve goals. Through First In Families, more than 10,000 families have gotten what they need to live successfully in the community rather than in institutional settings.
I am one of those families. Include up to four sentences describing how First In Families has made a difference in your life.
Currently, there are First In Families chapters serving 32 of North Carolina's counties. We need First In Families statewide to make sure that people with developmental disabilities are getting the services and supports they need and that public money is being efficiently and effectively used.
Please let me know your position on this issue. If I can provide you with any additional information or you would like to arrange a meeting, you can contact me at phone number and/or address. You can also obtain additional information about First In Families of North Carolina at www.fifnc.org.
Sincerely,

(Make sure you personalize the letter to strengthen its impact, but stay brief and to the point. You can include a First In Families fact sheet with your letter.)
