First In Families of North Carolina and the local Chapters receive primary funding from the NC General Assembly, through the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. We also receive funding through grants.
First in Families of North Carolina received a $3,000 grant from the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, to be used to help families and individuals in the North Carolina Counties where we do not have local FIF Chapters.
First In Families of North Carolina (FIFNC) received a $6,000 Quality of Life grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation (CDRF). FIFNC will use the grant to expand its Lifetime Connections program.
First In Families of NC was awarded a $47,525 Community Bridging grant by The Durham Center and greatly appreciates their support. FIF uses these funds: to build social networks for and with individuals leaving the state institutions and embarking on life in the community for the first time; to do outreach to families whose sons or daughters with disabilities are aging and who are not yet connected to community services of any kind; and, in various other ways to strengthen the social connectedness of individuals experiencing disability.
